NZ Chinese Building Industry Association Expo

KGA were proud supporters of the New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association (NZCBIA) annual conference and NZ International Property and Building Expo, held at the Vodafone Events Centre on 21 and 22 July 2017.

The NZCBIA was formed in 2015 to support ethnic Chinese operating in the New Zealand construction industry. They are committed to maintaining and uplifting the New Zealand construction industry standards and enhancing the reputation of the NZ Chinese building industry. KGA have been part of the NZCBIA since its inception, with both Jennifer being a board member and KGA a sponsor.

The theme of the 2017 conference was Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Auckland is currently going through a construction boom with an influx of new housing developments to meet the cities growing needs. The type of development is also changing, with more emphasis of terraced type housing development and apartment buildings. For existing companies to be successful in the changing market, they must be open to innovation and in embracing new methods and technologies.

This was the inaugural year of the NZ International Property and Building Expo of which KGA were a part. The expo's focus was to bridge the cultural barrier between Chinese and New Zealand builders. Jacqui, Steven, Jennifer and Tony were part of the KGA stand at the expo, talking to members of the building industry and the general public about the importance of geotechnical investigations during the building process. Steven helped enormously, conversing with many people in Mandarin. Ground conditions vary and a geotechnical investigation can work out what is below a site prior to building and the best foundation and retaining solutions for a project. Unexpected ground conditions when a site is opened up is a leading cause of time delays, cost blow outs and stress during the building process. The expo hosted people from all sectors of the building industry, including engineers, building product suppliers, Auckland Council, the Ministry of Innovation and Employment and the Government.
