Nazareth House, Christchurch >>

The identification of ground conditions and liquefaction potential for the site of Nazareth House was vital as part of the foundation design. Nazareth House is a large elderly care facility in Christchurch that was badly damaged during the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence leading to the buildings being demolished.

KGA carried out a geotechnical investigation of the site using a combination of desk study and machine boreholes as well as 32 Cone Penetration Tests which went to 18.5m below ground level. The subsurface information was used to develop a ground model of the site and determine liquefaction settlement potential and lateral spreading risk. Based on this information, KGA provided ground improvement/foundation design options.
